Social Impact : Democratizing Coaching

I believe coaching should not only exist for those who can already afford steady ground. My career moved from the humanitarian sector into coaching, but the belief underneath it never moved. It just found a new form.

"When the world shifts, you need someone who has been there."

I came to coaching sideways, through years of watching good people move through hard transitions with no framework and no witness. Insight, clarity, and honest self examination are not privileges. They are human needs.

Where this has taken shape

  • Refugee Jumpstart Coaching : As a volunteer coach with RJS for two years, I journeyed with refugees and displaced persons from Eritrea, Afghanistan, Sudan and DRC. Being a part of a global movement with RJS, we proved that coaching could be a real, meaningful intervention for people navigating forced displacement. Sadly, RJS closed in March 2026, a casualty of funding in a year when displacement is at record highs.

  • Grounded Idealist Coaching Collaborative : I became a volunteer coach when this movement started in 2024, at the peak of the outplacements of public servants and mission workers in the US and global.

Coaching is one of the few tools I know that can genuinely change the internal landscape of a person's life. It should travel further than it currently does. Democratising coaching does not mean diluting its rigour. It means asking honestly who is missing from the room, and building real pathways for them to enter. Insight, clarity, and honest self-examination are not privileges. They are human needs.
